For those who are unable to travel to Boston, the session’s audio and screen-share will be streamed via WebEx. Home Care companies that employ H-1B, TN, and other categories of visa holders or who serve patient or employee populations from these affected programs should plan now as to how to communicate with their employees, patients, and families about immigration policies.  Such organizations also should develop and implement appropriate workforce contingency plans to respond to potential worker shortages. During the session, partners from Seyfarth Shaw will cover the following: (1) the current state of immigration enforcement and policy; (2) the particular changes anticipated by January/March (DACA/TPS); (3) how healthcare providers may want to communicate to their work force and patients about these issues; and (4) what steps providers should be taking now since a worker shortage may develop for certain organizations as a result of these changes. Speaker: Leon Rodriguez served as the most recent director of United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (“USCIS”)  from 2014 to 2017.  USCIS is responsible for administering all U.S. immigration matters, including the processing of asylum and refugee applications, immigration benefits, and naturalization and visa petitions. Immediately prior to taking the helm at USCIS, Mr. Rodriguez served as the director of the Office for Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services from 2011 to 2014, the agency responsible for the enforcement of federal civil rights laws and health information privacy laws (HIPAA/HITECH). Mr. Rodriguez provides regulatory, litigation and strategic advisory services to clients in areas including immigration, health care, and government/congressional investigations.  His co-presenter Kristin McGurn is an employment counselor and litigator, providing advice to home health and other employers throughout the employment lifecycle, from hire to separation.
