Did you know that falls are the leading cause of brain injury? Or that there are approximately 16,000 older adults who sustain a traumatic brain injury in Massachusetts each year? In this presentation, we will explore the different types and causes of brain injury as well as ways in which we can work effectively with clients who have had a brain injury including aspects that are specific to older adults. There will be a brief discussion on the anatomy of the brain in the context of how an injury can effect certain cognitive, emotional, and physical functions based on the location of the injury. Lastly, we will review the resources and services that are available in Massachusetts so that we can best support the clients with whom we work. Speaker: Liz Harnois, Elders Information and Resources Specialist, Brain Injury Association of Massachusetts
